Council’s Budget Savings
East Dunbartonshire Council are faced with having to save millions of pounds over the next three years. These saving will result in a cut to our services and facilities within Torrance and could put our childrens’ lives at risk.
There are hundreds of proposals being put forward by EDC as ways of trimming this money, which in turn will have an impact on all of us living throughout East Dunbartonshire. Some examples are:-

Ÿ
Reduction in Corporate fleet
Ÿ
Stop provision for hanging baskets
Ÿ
Significantly reduce Economic Development Activity
Ÿ
Add 5p to the price of school meals
Ÿ
Close public halls or move to community ownership
Ÿ
Reduce the number of school crossing patrols
Ÿ
Increase special uplift charge to £15
Ÿ
Stop funding for Christmas Lights

The list goes on and on but while many of these proposals will have an impact on us in Torrance, the to most worrying have to be - Close public halls or move to community ownership and Reduce the number of school crossing patrols.

Our primary school children MUST not be left to cross our Main Street on their own. As we all know, the crossing is situated t a junction that is both very busy and has poor viability. This is not to mention the poor red light discipline that can be observed each and every day at the busy commuter hours.

We have to complain to our three Councillors about this AND to the Council as a matter of urgency. Our school crossing patrol is to be discontinued from April this year.

I look out on the field tonight
I hope I may, I hope I might
See this field again some day
Just as it was in it's hay day

Abundant with those creatures rare
It used to hold the country fair
I look out now and I can see
a great barn owl staring at me

I will say nothing more
than this, my dear friend
If TCI have their way
This is the end.
